US Jordan submits pre filing request to FERC to obtain LNG export license

Steel News - Published on Fri, 16 Mar 2012

TEX reported that the United States Jordon Cove Energy Project LP has submitted pre filing request to Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to obtain LNG export license. The company plans to produce and export six million tons per year of LNG at the terminal on the north spit of Coos Bay, Oregon state and officially to file an application in October 2012.

Jordan Cove had initially in mind to construct LNG import terminal. However, in the wake of changes in natural gas supply demand balance in the US, it switched its original plan to LNG production and export project.

Besides two 160,000 cubic meter LNG tanks, a berth available for Q FLEX tanker, which it had initially planned to construct for import terminal, four liquefaction trains to produce total 6 million tonnes per annum of LNG were newly added in its plan document.

If the application is approved by the end of 2013 in accordance with the schedule, LNG is expected to be exported at Jordan Cove\'s terminal in the third quarter of 2017.

Incidentally, Jordan Cove got approval to export LNG to countries with which the US has free trade agreements from the US Department of Energy in December 2011. On the other hand, approval process by DOE to export LNG to non FTA countries has not yet begun.

The update of applications received by DOE to export domestically produced LNG turned out as seen at the table hereunder.
