Dongfang Electric plans manufacturing base at Kolkata

ET reported that China’s largest power equipment manufacturer Dongfang Electric which is in the process of setting up a service centre in Kolkata may build a power equipment manufacturing base in India. If plans materialize, this would be DEC’s first manufacturing unit outside China.

Mr Wen Shugang president of DEC president told ET that “We would be looking at setting up a power equipment manufacturing unit in India after we have completed the service centre.”

He added that “We are in the process of setting up a service centre at New Town in Kolkata, after which we will take a decision on the manufacturing base. Nevertheless, the size, investment and location of the unit have not been considered as of now.”

Mr Shugang said “DEC’s annual manufacturing capacity for thermal power equipment is more than 20,000 MW. Hydro products manufacturing capacity is about 3,500 mw per year.”
