Kuwait News Agency quoted Mr Sami Al Rashid chairman of Kuwait Oil Company as saying that Kuwait wants to import about 500 million cubic feet per day of gas from Qatar during summer for five years.
He also said that Kuwait would support the output cuts called by the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries, but hoped that market situation would improve during winter, when demand for oil goes up.
Meanwhile, he stressed that oil projects in Kuwait would proceed as planned despite the ongoing global crisis in the financial sector. The projects would be bankrolled by the Kuwait Petroleum Company.
