Grindrod reveals Maputo plans

South Africa’s Grindrod Group has unveiled its plans for the further development of the port of Maputo in Mozambique. As per report the new USD 500 million master plan for Maputo will see its container terminal expanded to 400,000 TEU during 2009.

The existing car terminal will be quadrupled in size over ten years taking final capacity to some 250,000 car per annum. Matola Coal Terminal will see capacity expanded to 10 million tonnes and a new magnetite terminal of 6 million tonnes per annum capacity will be built.

Further investments will see new multipurpose terminals constructed and the rehabilitation of road and rail infrastructure to handle 25 trains and 1,500 trucks a day.
