PEPCO to introduce Time Of Day tariff
Sunday, 15 Mar 2009

Daily Times reported that Pakistan Electric Power Company are planning to introduce Time Of Day tariff for all the consumer categories to curtail demand in peak hours.

The report said that incentives and penalties would be enforced by the government to reduce energy waste, as energy efficiency is vital for the development of the economy of the country.

According to Energy Efficiency and Conservation Consultative Group’s meeting chaired by member energy Planning Commission, it was informed that National Energy Conservation Policy has already been approved by the federal cabinet.

The official said that there is a possibility of introduction of higher power tariff during the peak hours of day and normal tariff during off peak period of the day under TOD tariff policy. Increase on power tariff for peak hours would discourage non industrial consumers’ usage of electric power for non productive purposes. This would ensure efficient use of available power and balance in demand and supply resulting in reduction of load shedding.
