Coal laden train derailed on RSP feeder line
Thursday, 19 Mar 2009

SNS reported that a goods train derailed, seriously hampering raw materials movement to Rourkela Steel Plant. As per report, a goods train of 58 bogies, carrying coal got derailed near the diesel colony over bridge around 9 PM local time. The last 8 bogies were thrown out of track disrupting train movement on this route.

This is a link line especially meant for RSP for its raw materials and products movement. Yesterday evening the movements of trains on the line was halted for over 2 hours. The transfer of raw materials could only resume after the other line was opened for the goods trains.

But, this morning the movement of raw materials through rail came to a standstill. According to RSP sources, the movement stopped late in the afternoon as cranes were put into service to remove the derailed bogies to make rail movement smooth on this link line.

Local sources, however, said that it would take sometime to restore normalcy on this vital link line.
