It is reported that Sichuan province, located in Southwest China, has decided to conduct an investigation on the provincial outdated steel capacities from May 20th in line with the national steel industry adjustment and revitalization plan.

The move is also the specific measure for the whole provincial Vanadium and Titanium industry to realize the interior demand expansion, profit growth and products mix adjustment etc. The government is likely to work out a specific plan, in a bid to finish the insufficient capacity elimination work as scheduled.

As per report, Sichuan would make an overall summarization on the outdated capacity suspension since 2005 after the investigation, and based on this to set down an annual schedule plan from 2009 to 2011.

According to the plan, Sichuan will wash out the obsolete blast furnaces below 300 cubic meters and converters & electric cookers with less than 0.2 million tonnes per year by 2010. Moreover, the province may phase out the blast furnaces below 300 cubic meters and the converters & electric cookers no more than 0.3 million tonnes per year by the end of 2011 including other insufficient capacities.

Sichuan steel industry would close a great number of the outdated blast furnaces in three years.
