PEPCO constitutes task force to boost revenue
Thursday, 09 Jul 2009

The News reported that Pakistan Electric Power Company has constituted a task force to devise a mechanism to boost its revenue.

According to PEPCO, the task force, after its formation, has submitted its recommendations which are being implemented to control the revenue leakage problem faced by the PEPCO management.

The company said that the theft of electricity is another avenue to be plugged from where the revenue is drained out. It added the company has launched a special campaign to crack down on the electricity stealers. It said that strict instructions have been passed on to DISCOs that if any official is found involved in the theft of electricity, drastic disciplinary action will be taken against them. So far 630,248 consumers were caught stealing electricity since July last year to March this year and an amount of PKR 3699.76 million was debited to the accounts of these consumers. Similarly, an amount of PKR 2156.34 million was recovered as penalty from these electricity stealers. It was ensured by securing their meters that these consumers do not indulge in foul play again.

Meanwhile, the company said that the inflow in the reservoir of the 3 dams Tarbela, Mangla and Chashma Barrage registered a record inflow. Similarly the outflow has substantially enhanced. Ghazi Barotha is also constantly pumping maximum output.

Resultantly, the hydel generation has shot up to lend massive support to the national grid. PEPCO thermal plants are putting in their best and contributing significantly towards the generation capacity. Independent Power Producers are maintaining their optimal level of efficiency and the rental power plants are contributing admirably to ease the situation.
