Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has issued a show cause notice to Gammon India asking why it should not be blacklisted from contracts for two years.
Cracking the whip three weeks after the Zamrudpur incident that killed six people and cast doubts over the safety of the modern transport system, the DMRC issued a major penalty charge sheet against its Chief Engineer (Design) who approved the design of the cantilever pier that led to the mishap.
The DMRC placed under suspension Mr V P Srivastava deputy chief engineer (Design) and Mr Mukesh Thakur (in-charge of site supervision) deputy chief engineer
Mr E Sreedharan MD of DMRC said the actions were taken based on the report submitted by Prof A K Nagpal committee that went into the exact causes of the mishap.
Mr Sreedhan said "C Mallonga, the expatriate consultant of General Consultants who had direct responsibility for ensuring quality of works is being immediately de mobilized.”
