Monday, 26 Oct 2009

Trade Arabia reported that Dubai based DP World has taken delivery of 15 additional new cranes at its Jeddah facility located within the South Container Terminal at Jeddah Islamic Port.

The statement said that the commissioning of the new equipment has started and will be completed in a month's time, when all machinery will be fully operational. The investment in the 15 state of the art cranes, which are capable of servicing next generation mega container vessels, aims to increase productivity and assure the highest operating standards at DP World Jeddah.

Manufactured by Shanghai Zhenhua Port Machinery Company of China, the mega lifters include 3 super-super post panamax cranes and 12 RTG cranes. The SSPP cranes each have a capacity of 65 tonnes and an outreach of 55 meters, while the RTGs are capable of lifting one over six container tiers and stacking containers in 6 rows.

Mr Faisal Al Qahtani senior VP and MD of DP World Middle East said that “The new acquisitions mark an important milestone for DP World Jeddah and fulfill our earlier commitment to deliver state of the art yard equipment to enhance the terminals efficiency and productivity.”

He added that with the new addition, we are proud to say that DP World Jeddah sets the pace for the modernization of the Kingdom’s gateway port.
