The Bangalore based GMR Group is looking at venturing into power and road projects in Turkey. GMR Group has just completed an airport project in that country 12 months ahead of schedule.
Mr Kiran Grandhi chairman Airports of GMR Group said that “Most probably we will enter the power sector in Turkey. This is our strategy though nothing has been finalized as yet.”
Mr Grandhi told Business Line on the eve of the opening of the Sahiba Gockan airport in Istanbul. The internal strategy of the group was to look at other growing sectors when the airport project in Turkey is completed.
The group could also add an Indian touch to the Olympics Games scheduled to be held in Brazil in 2016. The South American State is one among many which are sending out feelers to see if GMR will take up similar airport projects in different parts of the world.
GMR has received enquiries from Wes Asia, East Europe and the South Asian region to take up airport projects there, Mr Grandhi said that “We have been approached. People are now knocking. In the last two months there has been a good sign of recovery.”
Asked whether the Group will form a consortium with the same partners that have completed the Istanbul airport, Mr Grandhi said that this would depend on a variety of issues including the terms of the bid and the location of the project.
The GMR Group has formed a consortium with Malaysian Airports to take up development of the Hyderabad airport.
