TATA Steel October sales up by 38pct

TATA Steel said that its October 2009 sales up by 38% to 462,000 tonnes on the back of robust demand from the construction sector.

TATA Steel completed the month of October with a significant increase in its hot metal, crude steel and saleable steel production over the corresponding month of last year. The month also witnessed best ever production in most of its producing units. The key figures are appended below:

Highlights

1. H blast furnace recorded its best ever production of 285,357 tonne. This is 3.42 million tonne per annum against the rated capacity of 2.5 million tonne per annum.

2. LD#1 (one of the Steel Melting Shop) recorded its best ever production of 263,243 tonne.

3. LD#2 (other Steel Melting Shop) recorded its best ever production of 336,012 tonne.

4. New Bar Mill (one of the Long Products rolling mill) recorded its best ever production of 62,448 tonne. This is @ 0.74 million tonne per annum against the rated capacity of 0.6 million tonne per annum.

5. Merchant Mill (other Long Products rolling mill) recorded its best ever production of 31,468 tonne.

6. Hot Strip Mill recorded its best ever production of 321,411 tonne.

7. Best ever hot metal production of 648, 894 tonne.

8. Steel Melting Shops recorded their best ever production of crude steel at 599255 tonne. This is @ 7.2 million tonne per annum against the rated capacity of 6.8 million tonne per annum.

9. 89% increase in Long Products sales over October 2008.

10. 13 % increase in Flat Products sales over October 2008.
