Baosteel CRGO used in three gorges project
Saturday, 07 Nov 2009

It is reported that Baosteel passed the technology evaluation of the appliance of Baosteel independently made oriented silicon steel in the 500 KV and over large scale transformers of the Three Gorges Project on October 3rd.

At present, Baosteel already developed 5 top grade oriented silicon steels, including B23R080 and saw parts of the products be accepted by 6 medium size and large transformer makers as well as by oversea buyers.

Baosteel becomes the second silicon steel suppler after Wuhan Steel for Three Gorges Project. An insider said Wuhan Steel has already completed the supply for the manufacturing of the largest transformer and will start the supply for the second largest one for Three Gorges Project.

Besides, Dongfang Electric Corp and Harbin Electric Corp, China second largest transformer producers, become the new targets for the two hunters: Baosteel and Wuhan Steel.

Last month, Mr Xu Lejiang, president of Baosteel visited Harbin Electric Corp, which occupies about half of China’s transformers in water power sectors, bucking for cooperation opportunity.

Mr Ma Guoqiang General Manager of Baosteel expresses the company produced 43,800 tons of oriented silicon steels in H1 this year including 15,500 tonne NSGO, and sold out 43,700 tonne While, Wuhan Steel planed to produced 350,000 tonnes of oriented silicon steels including 50,000 tonnes of the product with high permeability, increasing 30,000 tonnes more than last year. According to the insider, Wuhan Steel has a visible advantage in the competition.

He said that Baosteel planed to produce 80,000 tonnes of oriented silicon steel this year. After above 10 year’s research, Baosteel looks the product as the second important strategic product.

At present, there are 6 large transformer producers asking for batch supply of Baosteel-made top grade oriented silicon steels and 7 countries importing the products.
