Interfax-China reported that the Fujian Integrated Refining & Ethylene Project in Fujian Province has started commercial operation.
Sinopec, US oil giant ExxonMobil Corp and Saudi Aramco, the state oil firm of Saudi Arabia have invested a combined CNY 40 billion in the project. The Fujian Refinery will mainly use crude oil imported from Saudi Arabia.
The refinery will be able to process 12 million tonnes of crude oil and produce 800,000 tonnes of ethylene a year. Sinopec estimated that the project will produce about 7.46 million tonnes of high quality oil products annually.
The project also boasts the world's highest-level pollution controls and recycling facilities to minimize emissions.
